First, however, I must sidetrack for something I'm really, really excited about. We picked up my sister Heidi and her 'boyfriend' Ari at SFO airport on Friday afternoon (Heidi flew in to run the marathon with me). We had a great night catching up, and then on Saturday morning I noticed this flash of light coming off her finger. I did a double take, then a triple take, and realized...hmmm...this flash of light is on her ring finger. The ring finger of her left hand....could it be?? No, it couldn't -- could it?? So out comes my question -- "Heidi, what's that ring on your left hand all about??"
Then out it comes...Ari had planned to propose to her after the marathon in Big Sur, but he couldn't wait any longer and ended up proposing to her the morning they left to fly out to CA. I am so unbelievably excited about this!! Ari is everything I could have wanted for my little sister and then some, and I am so glad to have him as a part of the family. The reality is that he already has been. So congratulations you two, I have to admit this is still so surreal for me! Below is the fantabulous couple - picture taken on the Golden Gate Bridge:
And now to less important things but still part of my incredible weekend, the marathon. I picked up my girlfriend Dawn from the airport on Saturday, and the 3 of us girls had a leisurely lunch before heading down to Monterey. Ari, Craig and Merrick had already headed down there. We checked into the hotel, picked up our racing packets and strolled around town before grabbing a nice carb-filled dinner.
We had to wake up at 3:30a.m. the next morning in order to catch our bus that drove us to the start line for the marathon. For this Big Sur marathon, they actually shut down Highway 1 (highway that runs along the coast) for the duration of the marathon, so the only way for us to get to the start line was by bus. Nerves and excitement were running HIGH! I think I'll let the slideshow below do the rest of the talking...
