The other night he wanted to play with Play-Doh, so I did the usual thing - took out the Play-Doh and let him pick a color to play with. That's right, all you normal people out there, *a* color - as in 1 color, not 2 or 3 or 4. He chooses blue - okay no problem. Now you may ask, what is the reason you're only giving him 1 color? Well the obvious answer is that I don't want him to mix the colors up, otherwise it'll be one big globby mess and the yellow will never again see the light of day. It will be an end to color as we know it!
Then it dawns on me....why in the world do I care if my 20 month old wants to combine different colors. It's only Play Doh!! So after this big "AH HA" moment, I forced myself to open up the other cans and allow him to explore a world of multiple globs of Play Doh. He did exactly what I thought he would....combined them all together and his only color choice from here on out is "brown-ish". But you know what, he couldn't care less. He was happy as can be mixing his colors up and playing. After all, it's his Play Doh not mine!
Okay fine, so lesson learned. And to prove it - take a look below at our finger painting session the other night. Hmmm, do you think I went too far on the other side of the pendulum?! After all, it's called 'finger' painting for a reason.
